  1. I loved this book. It pulled me in all directions. I couldn’t put it down until I’d finished and it’s the first book I’ve read in a while where I haven’t had a sneaky look at the final page. I wanted to be reassured that my assumptions about the ending would be proved right – they weren’t! I’ve given the book to my friend to see if it has the same effect on her as it had on me, and I’m really looking forward to a good discussion.

  2. Wonderful book; thank you for writing it! I desperately want to believe Marta, but I just don’t know. It’s in her perspective so of course her side seems very real to us as readers, because it was very real to *her* whether in her mind or in actuality. The ending was very frustrating, but in a good way and I think this book is a great example of how malleable the human mind can be (for both characters and readers) no matter how sane.

I was on Marta’s side the whole time, even in the end. Especially because in the Q&A at the end Emma specifically talks about people with PTSD, and how they can start to have memories of what they were suppressing years after. I let a coworker of mine borrow the book, and she was on Hectors side after. Once I heard that, I didn’t know what to think! I looked back at the book and re-read some of it just because I thought I might have missed something. I still stand by Marta’s side…but I would like to hear more about other readers interpretations of the ending. Great book Emma, you’ve really got me thinking!
